Jensen Moore, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of public relations at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at University of Oklahoma. She teaches public relations principles, origins, and practice (formerly Intro to PR), contemporary problems in public relations, crisis communication, social media strategies, public relations campaigns, sports public relations, and nonprofit public relations. Her service-learning classes have worked with more than 25 organizations in the last few years, and her students have won Ketchum Mindfire challenges, PRSSA scholarships and recognitions, and national awards.
Moore completed her doctorate at the University of Missouri School of Journalism with specializations in strategic communication and health communication.
Moore's primary research interests are at the intersection of social media, crisis communication and health communication. To date, she has published more than 45 journal articles, book chapters and refereed proceedings and presented more than 55 research papers at conferences.
Moore and co-authors Bob Pritchard and Michael Climek were named Johnson Legacy Scholars by the Arthur W. Page Center in 2015-2016. In addition, Moore has received several Gaylord College faculty grants to study social media mourning and was awarded Katheryn Pate Callahan (2015-2017) and Blue Cross/Blue Shield (2012-2013) Professorships to study social media mourning and the Bart R. Swanson (2013-2014) and BankOne/Bateman Professorships (2014-2015) to study cognitive processing of mammogram messages by African-American women. In 2010 Moore was awarded a WVU faculty senate grant to begin a media effects lab at the P.I. Reed School of Journalism. Moore was tied for 29th out of the highest 35 individual rankings in top AEJMC convention paper productivity in the Spring 2010 issue of Journalism & Mass Communication Educator.
Moore’s professional experience included full-time work as the community relations director and advertising account executive for the St. Paul Saints Professional Baseball Team. Moore also worked for the Grand Rapids Hoops Professional Basketball Team where she was the media and public relations director for owner, Isaiah Thomas. She worked privately for Fresh Force Service Learning and Neighborhood Marketing Solutions in the Twin Cities and for the Wisconsin Army National Guard Recruiting Office.
Moore is incoming Head of the Public Relations of Society Educators Academy (2022-2023) and the former Head of Mass Communication and Society, the largest division of the Association for Educators in Journalism and Mass Communication (2015-2016). She serves on the advisory committee of the International Public Relations Research Conference, is a member of Champions for PRSSA, and has previously served in the Public Relations Division of AEJMC. Moore was named a Kopenhaver Fellow by the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center Center for Advancement of Women in Communication (2015-2016). In 2011, she was one of 16 academics and professionals who attended the prestigious Scripps Howard Leadership Academy.
Recently, in honor of her teaching Moore won the Owen Kulemeka Trailblazer award in teaching diversity at the Gaylord College (2021). She was recognized by her alma mater, Black Hills State University, for Excellence in Education (2021). In 2019 Moore won a $20,000 University of Oklahoma Presidential Dream Course grant where she taught Sports Public Relations, inviting more than 10 prominent sports communication professionals to the OU campus to meet with students. She was recognized with a Service-Learning Award by the Mass Communication & Society Division of AEJMC (2017). and was awarded the Outstanding Service-Learning faculty award at LSU for her teaching at LSU (2015-2016). In 2014, she was recognized as Public Relations Educator of the Year by the Southern Public Relations Federation (SPRF) which includes the southern states of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi. Moore received the 2013-2014 state of Louisiana Public Relations Educator of the Year award from the Public Relations Association of Louisiana (PRAL). She took third place in the 2014 Association for Educators in Journalism and Mass Communication Promising Professor competition, awarded by the Mass Communication and Society Division. Moore also received the 2010-2011 P.I. Reed School of Journalism Golden Quill Teaching Award.
Moore previously taught strategic communication at the Louisiana State University Manship School of Mass Communication where she also served as the faculty adviser for PRSSA at LSU (2012-2014), the adviser for the Bateman Case Study Competition (2012-2014), and on the LSU faculty senate committee for a tobacco-free LSU (2012-2013). Moore was also on the LSU Communication Across the Curriculum (CxC) advisory committee (2013-2016), the Manship Digital Media Initiative committee (2012-2015), the Manship accreditation research sub-committee (2014-2015), and the Manship Promotion and Tenure Policy sub-committee (2014-2015). Before that, Moore was the Director of Online Undergraduate Programs and a faculty member at the P.I. Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University (2009-2011) where she managed 21 online advertising, journalism, public relations, sport communication and health promotion courses each year, and oversaw 95 sections of these courses throughout the year.
